Social Media Melts Down Over 'Dog Whistle' In Photo Ivanka Trump Shared

If you go around looking for drama or trouble everywhere, there’s a good chance that you’re going to find it. Oftentimes, those that hunt for such things will have to manufacture things out of thin air in order to get the results they desire. Either way, drama and trouble aficionados are quite adept at finding what they want, and they rarely pay much mind to small things such as facts and details that don’t support what they choose to see.

A recent example of that popped up on - you guessed it - social media. Ivanka Trump, a favorite target of internet trolls, shared a post of her husband, Jared Kushner, and her son, who were out enjoying a little fun in the sun on a family vacation. The pair was doing a little fishing, and Ivanka shared some cute snaps to commemorate their memorable day.

“To any kid, this fish is a trophy!” she wrote.

As the Independent Journal Review shares, eagle-eyed observers on social media just so happened to notice something that was on a random boat way off in the distance. That boat had a Confederate flag on it, and a number of users took this to mean that Ivanka was attempting to send out some kind of mind-controlling subliminal message.

“It’s been hours since people pointed out that Ivanka Trump posted a pic with a confederate flag in the background. Let’s see if she removes it now that she & her team are aware. If not, it’s safe to say it was no accident,” shared one user.

Perhaps that’s possible, but it’s also likely that it was merely a random boat that was way off in the distance that just so happened to be captured in the picture. However, those that see what they want to see have a way of manufacturing even the simplest of family photos into a controversy.

“Confederate flag..?? You might want take a closer look at your photos before posting. Husband showing his true colours Ivanka..???” added another poster.

We’re going to go out on a limb and assume that Ivanka wasn’t paying all that much mind to a boat that was so far off in the distance. The family was in Florida at the time of the pic, and seeing other boats while out on the water is an incredibly common occurrence.

In addition, the flag on the random boat is barely decipherable in the snap that Ivanka posted, so one would have to be zooming in to even know what it was. For those that always want to see the bad in everything, it apparently makes sense to scan pics for obscure details that no one else would notice.

“Confederate flag over Jared's shoulder. Couldn't find four photos without one? Or is this a dogwhistle?” wrote another user.

The phrase ‘dog whistle’ has become somewhat of a rallying cry for detractors of President Donald Trump. In short, the phrase means that Trump uses hidden meaning when he speaks to get his message out to folks with abhorrent views.

By using that logic, the anti-Trump folks of the world interpret the president’s words to mean what they wish, as opposed to simply listening to what he has to say and taking it for what it is. In essence, they hear what they want to hear - actual words be damned! It appears that the same logic is now being applied to family photos.
