Senator Compares Obama To “Drug Dealer’ For Iran Payment

President Obama was “acting like the drug dealer-in-chief” when he approved the return of $400 million to Iran in exchange for the release of four U.S. hostages, according to a Republican lawmaker.

The Guardian reported that Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk is the latest member of Congress to condemn the deal. The Obama administration called the payment “leverage” in its effort “to make sure (the Americans held captive in Iran) got out safely and efficiently.”

Kirk told the State Journal-Register that “giving clean packs of money to a … state sponsor of terror” amounts to “ransom.” He continued: “Those 500-euro notes will pop up across the Middle East. We’re going to see problems in multiple (nations) because of that money given to them.”

Kirk’s campaign manager, Kevin Artl, later explained: “Senator Kirk was referring to the administration’s decision to send pallets of cash, not even U.S. dollars but euros and Swiss francs, in a clear ransom payment to Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The decision sets an awful and dangerous international standard that should be investigated, and the lack of transparency from the administration clearly indicated they knew their actions were not above board.”

According to the website Quora, the payment was money that was owed to Iran for past oil sales. Banks in China, India, Japan and South Korea sequestered the funds when Iran became subject to economic sanctions.
