Senate Judiciary Chair Launches New Hillary Clinton Investigation - Potential Meddling In Corruption Probe

Just when you thought investigations surrounding actions that may have occurred while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State are a thing of the past, a new one has popped up. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is poking around into some things, and some of the old allegations about Clinton are returning to the spotlight. Specifically, there have long been whispers that Clinton treated her position as one that would ultimately benefit the Clinton Foundation, and Grassley is taking a look to see what he can find.

As the Daily Mail shares, new information has come to light that says Clinton may have pressured Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheik Hasina into reinstalling Muhammad Yunus atop the bank he had been running. So why would she do that? Yunus is a friend of Clinton’s, and also a donor to the Clinton Foundation.

“This new evidence of pay-to-play and special treatment reinforces the appearance that donations to the Clinton Foundation resulted in favorable treatment by Secretary Clinton’s State Department,” said Grassley.

This doesn’t appear to be mere sabre rattling aimed at livening up the party faithful, but rather an actual probe that Grassley is taking quite seriously. He took the time to write a letter to current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to ask for some help.

“If the Secretary of State used her position to intervene in an independent investigation by a sovereign government simply because of a personal and financial relationship stemming from the Clinton Foundation rather than the legitimate foreign policy interests of the United States, then that would be unacceptable,” he wrote.

Yunus has allegedly donated between $100,000 and $250,000 to the Clinton Global Initiative, and he may have ponied up between $25,000 and $50,000 to the Clinton Foundation. If you think it sounds awfully inappropriate that Clinton would lobby so hard on behalf of Yunus after receiving such large sums of money, you would not be alone in that assessment.

“Co-mingling her official position as Secretary of State with her family foundation would be similarly inappropriate. It is vital to determine whether the State Department had any role in the threat of an IRS audit against the son of the Prime Minister in retaliation for this investigation,” Grassley’s letter continued.

As part of the investigation, Grassley says that Hasina has confirmed that Clinton exerted pressure to have Yunus reinstalled at the bank, and that her son was pressured to the point that he was threatened with an IRS audit by some State Department officials. It’s not too hard to see why Hasina is cooperating with the investigation if that’s the case.

We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of Grassley’s investigation, but it’ll certainly be interesting to watch it play out. Although Clinton continues to appear in public to vent about the election, she’s essentially on the sidelines in political circles, so she’ll have a much harder time pulling any strings behind the scenes.

If she ever winds up being called in front of the committee to answer for her actions, we would suggest getting your popcorn ready.
