Scarborough: When The Cameras Are Off, Republicans Admit Trump's Unstable

Joe Scarborough, the controversial co-host of MSNBC’s breakfast program ‘Morning Joe’ and a frequent critic of Donald Trump, has once again taken aim at the president, accusing the Commander-in-Chief of being “mentally unstable” and alleging that many Republicans privately agree with his views.

“If you measure what [Republicans] say when the cameras aren’t turned on and they tell you that they believe he’s unstable, which they do. So many people on Capitol Hill say that,” exclaimed Mr. Scarborough. “But you turn the cameras on and you have people blindly going out there saying he’s the greatest president of all time.”

Mr. Scarborough also acknowledged that Trump’s first big piece of legislation, a divisive tax plan, will be a pivotal move in securing the support of disenfranchised GOP senators and representatives.

“We’ll see what happens after they pass the tax plan. Maybe at that point they’ll say ‘Well, we got what we wanted from now, now we’ll tell the truth about Donald Trump,'” said Mr. Scarborough, later adding: “But I doubt it.”

This is by no means the first time that Joe Scarborough has launched an attack on President Trump and his administration. The long-running feud between the president and morning show host seems to have become even more heated ever since Trump tweeted about the death of an intern linked to Mr. Scarborough.

In his tweet, Mr. Trump conspiratorially hints that ‘Morning Joe’ could have been behind the death. An official police investigation has ruled that no foul play was involved in the death.

This is the Twitter exchange that started the latest round bout of feuding:

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin?” wrote Trump. “And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!”

To which Mr. Scarborough replied: “Looks like I picked a good day to stop responding to Trump's bizarre tweets. He is not well.”

The public feud first went viral after President Trump wrote a bizarre tweet about Mika Brzezinski, Mr. Scarborough’s co-host, who he said was “bleeding badly from a face-lift" at one of his parties at Mar-a-Lago. Since then, the morning show hosts have stepped up their criticism of President Trump, slamming his policies, character and abilities.

In fact, just last week, Mr. Scarborough implied that President Trump might be suffering from early-onset dementia, and hesitantly discussed what a process of removal, legally codified by the 25th Amendment, could look like.

White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has come to the defense of President Trump, emphasizing that his criticisms of Mr. Scarborough are simply a response to unfair treatment and coverage on his morning show.

"I don't think you can expect someone to be personally attacked day after day, minute by minute, and sit back," said Ms. Sanders. "When the president gets hit, he's going to hit back harder."
