Santorum: U.S. Doesn't Need The IRS

When Rick Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, announced his bid for the 2016 presidential election near his childhood home in Cabot, western Pennsylvania, he declared that he would take apart the Internal Revenue Service, cut down illegal immigration, decrease federal spending and institute a flat tax. He also said that “big government” and “big business” are responsible for leaving American workers behind. In addition, he blamed illegal immigrants for illegally robbing Americans of their jobs.

During Santorum's election campaign in 2012, the Cato Institute called him a “big government conservative” because of his votes for No Child Left Behind and Medicare prescription drug benefits. Back then, his main challenger was Mitt Romney. He even won the Iowa caucus. Moreover, Santorum depended on the born-again and evangelical Christian constituencies, who helped him get further than any other Republican candidate besides Romney. Now, Santorum faces more competition for votes with evangelical Christians from other candidates who poll well with them including Ben Carson, Sen. Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Gov. Rick Perry.
