Sanders: Trump Wrong To Scoff At Russian Hacking Charges

Donald Trump should not rule out the possibility that the Russian government interfered with last month’s presidential election, Bernie Sanders declared Sunday.

According to The Hill, the Vermont senator cited a CIA report that the Russians helped Trump win by hacking the emails of Democratic National Committee officials and Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager. Investigators accused the hackers of giving those emails to WikiLeaks without also releasing documents they retrieved from Republican operatives’ computers.

“This is very serious stuff,” Sanders said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” He continued: “We've got to take a hard look at the role that the Russians played in this election process. We’ll see where the investigation goes, but for Donald Trump to summarily dismiss all of this makes no sense to me at all.”

The senator was reacting to Trump’s statement earlier on Sunday that the charges against the Russians are “ridiculous.” The president-elect told Fox News that the issue is “just another excuse” for Democrats to explain how Clinton lost her White House bid. “I don’t believe it,” Trump said when asked about the CIA’s findings.

Sanders vowed to hold Trump to some of his campaign promises, like renegotiating international trade agreements to aid U.S. workers. The senator, a leader of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, said there are several other issues on which he agrees with the president-elect.
