Rubio Says He Bought Gun in Fear of ISIS Attack

If Islamic State militants launch an assault in Florida, Marco Rubio is ready to fight them with his new gun, according to The Hill.

The Republican presidential contender explained Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he purchased the firearm on Christmas Eve. “I have a right to protect my family if someone were to come after us,” he said. “In fact, if ISIS were to visit us, or our communities, at any moment, the last line of defense between ISIS and my family is the ability that I have to protect my family from them, or from a criminal, or anyone else who seeks to do us harm.”

Rubio, who claims to be a strong defender of the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms, argued that “millions of Americans feel that way.” Asked why he got the weapon on a holiday, he replied: “Well, first of all, I’m not home very often, so that was one of the few days that I was there.”

The Hill noted that Rubio is not alone in his concern about possible attacks by terrorists and other mass shooters. Recent rampages linked to ISIS, like the multiple assaults in Paris and the murders in San Bernardino, Calif., have heightened fears. As a result, many Americans bought guns last Christmas.
