Rubio: Leave Me Out of Trump ‘Freak Show’

Marco Rubio said Monday that he does not want anything to do with the distractions of the Donald Trump presidential campaign.

“I’m not interested in the back-and-forth; to be a member or part of his freak show,” the Florida senator told host Steve Inskeep on National Public Radio. “I would just say this: He is a very sensitive person. He doesn’t like to be criticized. He responds to criticism very poorly.”

Rubio, once considered a long-shot contender for the Republican presidential nomination, is now in fourth place (according to an average of national polls as calculated by RealClearPolitics). Trump is responding by targeting the senator on the campaign trail, The Hill reported.

Rubio has “the worst voting record in the United States Senate,” the real-estate tycoon declared last week on CNN. “He’s never there, meaning he doesn’t work or he’s too lazy to go back and vote. He shouldn’t even be running in this race, as far as I’m concerned. He’s a kid.”

Trump still tops national polls of likely GOP primary voters. However, his lead has been shrinking in recent weeks as Rubio, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina gain more support. Rubio is averaging 9.6 percent support, according to RealClearPolitics.
