Rubio Insists ‘This Election Is Not Being Rigged’

Donald Trump is wrong when he accuses electoral officials and the news media of manipulating the voting process to ensure that Hillary Clinton becomes president, according to Sen. Marco Rubio.

The Florida Republican, who competed with Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, declared Monday: “This election is not being rigged. There is no evidence behind any of this, so this should not continue to be said. We have 67 counties in this state, each of which conduct their own elections. I promise you there is not a 67-county conspiracy to rig this election.”

Rubio made the comments during a debate with Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy, his opponent in Florida’s Senate race. CNN noted that Rubio is among many Republican politicians who are rejecting Trump’s argument that the process is biased against him. The real-estate mogul continues to warn his supporters that Clinton is benefitting from voter fraud, even though such crimes are rare.

Rubio and Trump frequently clashed in the Republican candidates’ debates. The Florida lawmaker eventually endorsed his rival, but not until long after losing his home state’s GOP primary. While Rubio is a fierce critic of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, he also has slammed Trump for his inflammatory and crude rhetoric.

In Monday’s Senate debate, Murphy remarked: “I don’t understand how Senator Rubio can look himself in the mirror and still stand by Donald Trump’s side after everything that’s come out about him.” Rubio then blasted his opponent for backing Clinton.
