Rubio Blasts Obama’s Gun-Control Executive Orders

The executive orders President Obama announced Tuesday showed that he is “obsessed” with gun control, according to Republican presidential contender Marco Rubio.

“It undermines the Second Amendment, and it will do nothing to keep people safe,” the Florida senator declared on Fox News. “Barack Obama is obsessed with undermining the Second Amendment — an important protection our Constitution recognizes and defends for us, and he’s looking for any way possible to undermine it. He’s been doing this forever.”

Rubio, who trails only Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in some polls of GOP voters, added: “This president is obsessed with undermining the Constitution in general, but the Second Amendment in particular. He is obsessed with undermining it, and it will do nothing.”

The Hill noted that many Republicans are speaking out against the executive actions, which would extend the background-check system to those who purchase firearms online and at gun shows. Obama also called for requiring all professional dealers to obtain a federal license.

In addition, the executive actions will provide more funding for mental-health treatment, mandate that mental-health records be reported to the background-check system, improve the enforcement of existing gun-control laws, promote research to make guns safer, create “smart” technology to enable the tracking of weapons, and prevent those convicted of domestic violence from legally buying guns.
