Romney Rejects Trump and Clinton; Says His Wife Would Be Better

Mitt Romney, expressing his disgust with the two major parties’ apparent presidential nominees, suggested Wednesday that he might vote for his wife as a write-in choice.

The Atlantic reported that Romney, the Republican candidate who lost the 2012 general election to President Obama, told CNN’s John Dickerson he will not cast his ballot for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

Newsmax noted that Romney has been calling for an independent or third-party challenge. He argues that Trump is not a true conservative, and that his ideas do not reflect those of the Republican Party. The billionaire businessman is alienating women, racial minorities, and young voters, according to the former Massachusetts governor.

During his CNN interview at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Romney explained. “It’s unfortunate that both on the left and right … Bernie Sanders has run a campaign that said all your problems, middle-class Americans, are because of those big banks and Wall Street … and on the right our nominee is saying it’s these people here, it’s Mexicans coming across the border … it’s them and it’s Muslims. I’m afraid the things Mr. Trump has said has been unfortunate branding for our party.”

Romney, quoting right-wing writer P.J. O’Rourke, added: “Hillary Clinton is wrong on every issue, but she’s wrong within the normal parameters.”
