Republicans Vow To Vote For Democrat Instead Of Trump

Donald Trump’s candidacy is so controversial that some Republicans are threatening to vote for the Democratic presidential nominee in November, according to Fox News’ Bret Baier.

“Listen, there are Republicans in Washington who are privately saying that already,” the news anchor said on “The Wrap” on Monday. “Maybe some don’t publicly say it, but I think there are some who are that adamant about it who would.”

Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee, is among several prominent party leaders engaged in an anti-Trump movement. They argue that the real-estate developer is not a true conservative, and that he would be doomed to lose in the general election.

Trump’s critics hope he fails to earn the 1,237 delegates necessary to secure the Republican nomination. “But short of that and some kind of hail Mary at the Cleveland convention, there are definitely Republicans who are looking at (voting for either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders),” Baier said. He warned that Clinton could become a “unifying force” who earns the support of enough Republicans to put her in the White House.

Recent national polls indicate that Trump would lose to either Clinton or Sanders. The other top Republican candidates, Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida, appear to be in a better position to challenge the former secretary of state. Sanders would beat any of the GOP contenders, according to the surveys.
