Report: Behind Closed Doors, Trump Throws Shade On Infamous 'Access Hollywood' Tape

We’ve all said things behind closed doors that aren’t for public consumption, but the overwhelming majority of us don’t have to worry about those comments seeing the light of day. That’s not true for famous folks, as the gossip mill is always churning with salacious tidbits about who said what. It’s been especially true for President Donald Trump ever since he took office, as there have been a ton of rumors floating around about things he’s shared with others since assuming the role of commander-in-chief.

Of course, it’s rare that a name is actually attached to the rumor. The vast majority stem from ‘sources close to’ or a ‘person familiar with’ the president, for example. In other words, there have been more leaks coming out of the White House than you would expect to see from a rusty pipe that has clearly seen better days. In fact, it’s not an overstatement to say that there have been more leaks since Trump has taken office than at any time in modern political history.

Many of the leaks are framed in a way to make the president look bad, and that certainly calls into question the motivations of those that share such tidbits. Some of the leaks are of the innocuous variety that quickly get lost in the shuffle of the average political news cycle, but others will make even casual observers perk up and take notice. This one fits into that category.

As AOL shares, this leak has to do with the infamous ‘Access Hollywood’ tape. A report from the New York Times has brought this one to light, and it comes in the wake of the salacious allegations that are threatening to derail the Senate candidacy of Republican Roy Moore in Alabama. Trump made headlines last week when he noted that Moore has denied the allegations. While he didn’t come right out and say he believed Moore, some observers took it that way.

"He sees the calls for Mr. Moore to step aside as a version of the response to the now-famous Access Hollywood tape, in which he boasted about grabbing women’s genitalia, and the flood of groping accusations against him that followed soon after,” the Times reports. “He suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic, and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently.”

In Moore’s case, a number of accusers have come forward with sexual misconduct allegations. The Alabama special election is right around the corner, and many parallels have been drawn between Moore and the allegations that nearly destroyed Trump’s presidential campaign. There have been a number of calls for Moore to step aside, but he has remained steadfast in refuting the allegations. Trump denied the allegations against him as well, and his accusers never pushed the issue.

As for the Access Hollywood tape, in which Trump can be heard on a hot mic making a number of lewd remarks, it’s unclear what the president feels is not authentic about the tape. It’s also unclear why a private conversation he had with either a senator or an adviser would be shared with the press.
