Ranking GOP Senator Says Obama is Trying to Force Supreme Court To Rule In His Favor

On Monday, top Senate Republican Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) accused President Obama of "bullying the Supreme Court" into upholding a key facet of his healthcare law. His accusation came just minutes after Obama told reporters that the court was wrong in taking up the case challenging his landmark law. Barrasso asserted “Instead of bullying the Supreme Court, the president should spend his time preparing for the reality that the court may soon rule against his decision to illegally issue tax penalties and subsidies on Americans in two-thirds of the country."

In an earlier press conference, that same Monday, Obama said that the court case King v. Burwell “shouldn't have even been taken up.” If Obama loses this court case, 6.4 million people who sign up for health insurance on federal exchanges could lose their subsidies. The Obama administration has emphasized that the authors of the Affordable Care Act “never intended” to block people on federal exchanges from obtaining the subsidies. Obama said the one way to resolve the dispute is “Congress could fix this whole thing with a one-sentence provision." Barrasso challenged Obama's idea by saying that the GOP will not pass "a so-called 'one-sentence' fake fix."
