Rachel Maddow Mockingly Drags Out Trump Tax 'Scoop', Ends Up In Embarrassment

Rachel Maddow was guilty of an “epic fail” Tuesday night, when she claimed to have an “exclusive” story about one of President Trump’s tax returns, according to Breitbart News.

Maddow teased her MSNBC viewers with the promise that she had “breaking” news to report. However, the liberal commentator took so long to get around to making the revelation on her show, it was not news anymore. “Instead of getting right to her big scoop about a 2005 Trump tax return she obtained, Maddow opened her show with a rambling 20-minute rant outlining her often tangential theories regarding Trump’s connections to Russia,” Breitbart reported.

The alt-right news site continued: “Maddow did not unveil the relevant tax documents until 23 minutes into the show, revealing that Donald Trump had made more than $150 million in income in 2005 and paid $38 million in income taxes that year. In fact, Maddow took so long to get to the point that the Trump White House scooped her.” The administration issued a statement declaring: “You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago. … (It is) totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns.”

The Hill mocked the commentator by declaring in an op-ed: “The world seemingly stopped after Maddow’s breaking tweet about 90 minutes before her 9 p.m. ET program stating she had Trump tax returns. … Said tweet immediately jumped to the top trender on Twitter. Many in political media and even former Hillary Clinton aides seemed downright giddy at the impending news coming. … In the end, the big get … showed that 11 years ago as a private citizen, Trump paid $38 million in federal income taxes on a reported income of $150 million, or an effective tax rate of 24 percent. The documents (two pages worth) were sent to journalist David Cay Johnston, the founder and editor of DCReport.”
