President Trump’s Latest Tweet May Be Illegal
It seems likely that President Donald Trump violated US law on his first day in the White House.
That’s because Trump posted multiple times to his personal account and the official @POTUS account during the day, but then later deleted one tweet from his personal account, which legal experts say is very likely a violation of the Presidential Records Act.
Early on Saturday following Friday’s inauguration, Trump tweeted: “I am honered to serve you, the great American People, as your 45th President of the United States!”
However, thousands in the Twittersphere poked fun at Trump’s incorrect spelling of the word ‘honored,' and in less than 10 minutes the tweet was deleted and a new tweet was posted with the word “honored” spelled correctly.
A few hours later, that tweet was deleted as well.
A number of legal scholars have pointed out that both deletions of Trump’s tweets may have violated the Presidential Records Act, which requires the preservation of all presidential records.
However, it was a party for those who oppose Trump as tens of thousands of tweeters had fun pointing out Trump's unbelievable spelling error.
“Kinda fitting he doesn't know how to spell honor, lol,” noted Sam Morrison.
“Are you honered to be the most illiterate President of the United States?” David Nuzzy Nussbaum joked.
“I have the best typos! Nobody has better typos than me! Sad!” Jules Suzdaltsev commented in an imitation of Trump's typical over the top style.
Keep in mind that this isn't the first time Trump has been caught making egregious spelling errors.
For example, last December, Trump posted on Twitter that China had removed a research drone out of international waters in an “unpresidented” act, and he was once again the target of many jokes in reply to his tweet.
In that case, the tweet was soon corrected to “unprecedented,” and was not deleted later.
