Parents And Viewers Take Megyn Kelly To Task Over New Alex Jones Interview

If nothing else, Megyn Kelly has figured out how to keep her new Sunday Night show on NBC in the headlines. The former Fox News host debuted on her new home to much fanfare, with a highly publicized interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and she’s followed that up by securing another interview with a controversial figure. However, her latest interview subject is causing a whole lot of backlash to head her way.

As the Daily Mail shares, Kelly has shared a clip of her interview with Alex Jones of Infowars. Jones has been a huge proponent of conspiracy theories through the years. Among the many theories he has espoused, he's claimed that 9/11 was an inside job and that the horrific Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.

“It was a riveting exchange. Promise you that,” Kelly shared.

Kelly was quickly taken to task for providing a forum for Jones to express his views to the masses. Chelsea Clinton was among those that chimed in, as she takes particular umbrage with Jones’ theory on Sandy Hook.

“There is no justification for amplifying lies (or a liar), particularly about unimaginable tragedy. I hope no parent, no person watches this,” Clinton wrote on social media.

Nelba Marquez-Greene, who lost her child during the horrific scene in Newtown, Connecticut, also took to social media to express her dismay.

“I promise you it's not riveting. How [would] you feel if someone shot your kids, some fool said it wasn't true- and I gave him a show?” she wrote.

Other users piled on and shared her tweet, and things snowballed from that point.

“I hate that this type of coverage is gonna help legitimize him. Truly disappointing,” shared one user.

Kelly attempted to defend her decision, but her take did little to quell the outrage.

“POTUS's been on & praises @RealAlexJones' show. He's giving Infowars a WH press credential. Many don't know him; our job is 2 shine a light,” Kelly wrote.

During the clip, Jones can be seen sharing his controversial views. To Kelly’s credit, she cuts him off each time to press for facts before he goes off on a complete tangent.

“Oh I know, but they don't get angry about the half-million dead Iraqis from the sanctions…,” he says at one point. “The media doesn't cover all the evil wars…,” he adds later.

“That doesn't excuse the things you said about Newtown, you know that,” Kelly interjects.

“Here's the difference, I looked at all the angles of Newtown and I made my statements before the media even picked it up,” Jones replies.

While it looks like an interesting interview with a man that has some unusual views, it’s completely understandable that the parents that lived through the Sandy Hook tragedy have no desire to hear what he has to say. That being said, perhaps Kelly’s interview will further expose his controversial views to the point that even his most ardent followers can no longer take him seriously. We’ll have to wait and see about that, but those that are expressing outrage are doing nothing more than ensuring that even more people will be watching.

Now, Kelly has been dumped by Sandy Hook gala organizers who had brought her in to host an event. NBC is also being pressured to drop the interview which is supposed to air on Father's day.
