Palin Says Immigrants Cross-Border To Get ‘Gift Baskets’

Immigrants are entering the United States from Mexico to obtain “gift baskets with soccer balls,” Sarah Palin claimed Friday during her speech on behalf of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump at a GOP event in Wisconsin.

The Daily Mail reported that the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee was referring to conservative commentator Glenn Beck having given items to undocumented immigrant children at the border two years ago. The kids received soccer balls, among other things, according to Breitbart News.

Palin blasted Wall Street and so-called free-trade agreements, while calling for a more aggressive foreign policy, Inquisitr reported. “The establishment’s interest runs counter to the interests of the people,” she declared. “Common sense is an endangered species in Washington.” She argued that Trump could balance the budget and create jobs. He “understands reality,” according to Palin.

The Daily Mail noted that Trump’s top competitor, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, also spoke at the Wisconsin Republican Party’s fish fry. However, Palin’s controversial remarks captured most of the media attention. Philip Rucker of the Washington Post reported during the event: “Eight minutes into her speech at GOP dinner and no applause yet. Some eye rolls and phone checking, though.” He wrote that the Tea Party favorite’s appeal to Republicans “has faded.”
