Palin Family Made Best Of It For The Holidays - But Todd's Still Showing Effects Of Attack By Son Track

The holiday season has come and gone, and hopefully you’re among the many that were able to make it through the merry season without being impacted by some completely unnecessary family drama. Unfortunately, not all families are as fortunate in that regard. Holiday gatherings can quickly go south when the knives come out, and we’re not talking about when it’s time to carve up the Christmas goose or the holiday ham.

When families with unsettled business gather together, problems that have long simmered beneath the surface can quickly reach the boiling point after a few rounds of eggnog. Old wounds get reopened, coarse words are exchanged, and before you know it, the holiday from hell is afoot. The end result is even more scars and hurt feelings, and those on the sidelines of the theatrics vigorously shake their heads and swear they’re never doing this again.

Of course, family drama is not exclusive to the holidays alone. There are plenty of families that have some serious unresolved issues, and things can come to a head at a moment's notice. That’s what happened to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her family in mid-December.

Her husband Todd was brutally assaulted by their son, Track, and the family is truly lucky that things weren’t even worse. The cops became involved after Sarah had no choice but to call 911 to report that her son was “freaking out" and on "some type of medication."

As AOL shares, the family still tried to make the best of things for the holiday season. The former vice presidential candidate would share a snap of her and her family taking a trek to the family’s cabin to ring in the New Year.

“Trailering snowmachines to trailhead for trek out to the cabin... perfect way to usher in the new year! May 2018 be a year of breakthrough, joy & victory for all!” she wrote.

Todd is visible in the picture, and he’s still showing the effects of the assault from his son. Reports indicate that a dispute broke out between dad and son over the borrowing of a family truck. Todd refused to let Track take the truck, and he cited the fact that his son had been drinking and taking pain medication.

Track would come to his parents' home anyway, and he busted through a window to get inside. He would brutally assault his own father, but his parents were able to escape and alert the authorities.

Track was arrested on charges of first-degree felony burglary and a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree assault, and he’s currently out on bail. This is the second run-in with the law for the Army veteran, who was accused of holding an assault rifle near his girlfriend’s head back in 2016. Sarah made reference to her son’s struggle during a campaign appearance for then-candidate Donald Trump.

"My son, a combat veteran … was fighting for you all, America, in the war zone. My son, like so many others, came back a bit different, they come back hardened," she said.

During his time in the service, Track spent a year deployed in Iraq. It’s unclear if he’s suffering from any kind of PTSD, or if he has developed a substance abuse problem.

Regardless, we can’t imagine the trauma that the situation must be causing for the Palin family. In a perfect world, this frightening incident will serve as a gigantic wake-up call that will inspire Track to get whatever help he needs.
