Palin Calls Governors ‘Last Line of Defense’ Against Refugees

Sarah Palin is applauding the growing number of governors vowing to fight President Obama’s efforts to relocate Syrian refugees to their states, according to The Hill.

“They’re our last lines of defense when it comes to taking in those who have not been vetted,” the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee said on “Fox and Friends.” Disputing the Obama administration’s promise on Monday to conduct “rigorous” screening, she claimed, “there is no process to vet, get rid of the bad guys, before they step foot on our soil.”

More than 30 governors, nearly all of them Republicans, have come out against the president’s proposal to welcome 10,000 Syrians into the country next year. About 1,500 residents of the Middle Eastern nation reportedly have already fled the chaos of civil war and entered the United States during the past four years.

The White House contends that governors lack the authority to stop anyone who is in the country legally from moving into their jurisdictions. Palin disagreed, arguing that the state chief executives are “so correct when it comes to whose authority actually it is to make sure that the people that they’re serving are safe.” The governors are demanding that at the very least, the administration should guarantee a thorough screening process.

The Hill reported that Palin said she “felt sorry” for the president, citing “his naivete; his usurping of the governors’ authorities.”
