Outraged Judge Drops Bomb On Entitled Millionaires Who Protest Anthem

The national anthem protest made popular by high-profile members of professional sports has created a great deal of controversy, and one judge says he's had enough.

The preseason is in full swing for the National Football League, and the regular season is right around the corner. While there’s plenty of things happening on the field and in training camps, something that keeps happening on the sidelines continues to receive an inordinate amount of attention. Various NFL players have taken it upon themselves to not stand for the national anthem, all in the name of ‘protest.’ The trend was started by currently unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year, and it shows no sign of letting up.

Scores of fans are getting pretty tired of it - as well as the non-stop fawning coverage of those that disrespect the anthem. Football is meant to serve as an escape, but it’s anything but that when players feel the need to make their various statements, and then the press goes ahead and discusses it ad nauseam. As the Washington Examiner shares, we can include Ohio Supreme Court Justice Bill O’Neill in the camp of those that have had enough.

During last week’s preseason game, about a dozen members - yes, that many - decided to jump on the so-called protest bandwagon. The players did their thing, and the media proceeded to huff and puff while breathlessly reporting what a brave and noble gesture it was. O’Neill doesn’t see it that way at all, and he took to social media to say his piece.

"I will NEVER attend a sporting event where the draft dodging millionaire athletes disrespect the veterans who earned them the right to be on that field," he wrote. "Shame on you all. William O'Neill, LTC, US Army, Retired. Vietnam veteran; son of a World II veteran; proud father of an Iraq veteran."

What the NFL players - and many of those tasked with covering them for a living - fail to recognize is that O’Neill’s sentiments are shared by scores of others out there, whether they are veterans or not. The players have the resources to personally make a difference with whatever issue they feel passionate about, and there’s simply no need to disrespect the national anthem to get a point across.

Perhaps they do recognize this fact, and that makes it even more mind-blowing. Why would someone intentionally upset a paying customer? As any business owner will tell you, that’s not a sound business strategy. If you do that enough times, you’ll suddenly find yourself scrambling to win them back. Exactly how would the NFL and its players be able to pull off that trick in this case?

Quite simply, there are much better and more powerful ways to make a statement if the players are so inclined. Sitting or kneeling for the anthem is the easy way out, and it’s frankly lost its shock value by this point. There’s nothing pointed or edgy about it. It’s just plain rude and disrespectful. Period.

While the press may not it see it this way, they deserve just as much of the blame at this point. Why does a person disrespecting the national anthem deserve so much coverage? We get it. Highly-compensated professional athletes feel the need to make a statement about something. Can they stop being showered with attention every single time they do so?
