Our US Debt Was $19,947,304,555,212 - Here’s What It Is Now Because Of Trump

Mainstream media loves to jump on any story about President Donald Trump if it shows him in a negative light; or if they can spin it to make the president look bad. On the other hand, when positive news comes out of the White House, most of the media ignores it altogether. President Trump has decided to do their job for him; he jumped on Twitter to report the National Debt decrease.

On Saturday Morning, President Trump announced that in his first month of office, he managed to decrease the national debt by $12 million. In comparison, former President Barack Obama increased the national debt by $200 billion in his first month. With nary a word from the press, however, Mr. Trump decided to spread the good news himself on Twitter.

"The media has not reported that the National Debt in my first month went down by $12 billion vs a $200 billion increase in Obama first mo," his tweet read.

In case anyone was unclear on exactly what that meant, the president added in another tweet, "Great optimism for future of U.S. business, AND JOBS, with the DOW having an 11th straight record close. Big tax & regulation cuts coming!"

The Gateway Pundit, a conservative website, listed Treasury Department figures that backed up the president's claim. The day before the president took office, the national debt was $19,947 billion; a month later, it was at 19,935 billion.

Media sources leaning liberal are reluctant to give Trump a win, though. Business Insider says 'debt outstanding to public' has hardly moved in a month. They also say the federal government's current budget was passed under President Barack Obama, so if anyone gets the win, it's the former POTUS.

Business Insider also notes the difference in circumstances for each president. President Obama took office during a financial collapse, while President Trump took office during a recovery.

Whether President Trump is delivering what he promised to do remains in dispute. No doubt, that dispute will continue, as his supporters will always give him the benefit of the doubt, and his detractors will always look for something to criticize.
