Old Tweets Can Come Back To Haunt Sarah Sanders At Worst Possible Time

Random posts on social media can come back to haunt you, and it’s always important to keep that in mind before you hit submit. While that may seem like an overly cynical way of looking at the sharing of thoughts here and there, we’ve all seen a ton of instances in which that has been proven to be true.

Ask yourself: how many times have you seen a random post dug up from a famous face and seen holy hell break loose soon thereafter?

The answer is a ton of times, which is why it’s always wise to think things through before you post. At the very least, ask yourself a simple question: is this really necessary? There’s a good chance you’ll know the answer to that, and that should tell you all you need to know before you share.

We don’t know if White House press secretary Sarah Sanders went through that little exercise before sharing this little gem last year, but she may be wishing that she had right about now.

As the Daily Dot shares, some sleuthing users in the social media universe have dredged up an old post from Sanders that places some new perspective on a current situation.

“When you're attacking FBI agents because you're under criminal investigation, you're losing,” she wrote.

The post is from 2016. Sanders was apparently referring to failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the fact that she was less than pleased with then-FBI director James Comey. In fairness to Sanders, the post may have made sense in the context of the moment, but many users are now applying some revisionist history to things.

“Seems like every day is a good day to pull out this gem,” shared one user.

“Some tweets age well. Others come back to haunt you over and over and over,” wrote another commenter.

“How's that working out for POTUS Sarah?” add one poster.

The users were referring to one of President Donald Trump’s latest rants. Trump is none too pleased with the never-ending investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and some of the latest revelations are really sticking in his craw. He wasn’t shy about spouting off about that on social media.

“Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI “agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.” Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge,” Trump wrote. “After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness… Report: “ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE” Now it all starts to make sense!”

There may come a time when Trump will regret one of his many tweets, but that worry doesn’t appear to even enter his mind before he shares his thoughts. For the rest of us, caution remains a solid course of action when sharing things on social media.
