Obama Makes Fun Of Trump’s Twitter Rants Without Mentioning His Name

Former President Barack Obama took a veiled shot at his successor on Thursday, when he pointed out that he refrained from tweeting while in the White House, according to Inquisitr.

At an A&E Networks event in New York City, presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin said President Abraham Lincoln dealt with the challenges of the job by writing angry letters that he did not mail. When she asked Obama how he handled the pressure, he quipped: “For starters, by not having a Twitter account.”

The New York Post reported that Obama came under fire for accepting a $400,000 speaking fee for participating in the event, one of his few public appearances since leaving office. The newspaper noted that the ex-president is to get the same amount of money in September when he is scheduled to speak at a health-care conference sponsored by the Wall Street investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a leader of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, was among those who slammed Obama’s speaking fees. She said on SiriusXM’s “Alter Family Politics” that the payments “troubled” her. Referring to her newly released publication, the senator explained: “One of the things I talk about in the book is the influence of money. I describe it as a snake that slithers through Washington, and that it shows up in so many different ways here in Washington. The influence of dollars on this place is what scares me. I think it ultimately threatens democracy, and one of the reasons I feel so urgent when I wrote this book is that we have to think about what the tools are to fight back against it.”

During the A&E event, where Obama received a standing ovation, Goodwin asked what he missed most about being president. He said he fondly remembered sitting on the White House’s Truman balcony on warm summer evenings, looking at the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. He joked about having to relearn how to drive a car and operate a coffee maker.
