Obama Kept A $30K Secret In His Final Year - Here It Is

It's good to be the president. Of course, those in office are not allowed to accept bribes or anything of that magnitude, they are often showered with gifts of good will and gratitude. In President Obama's final year in office, he declared $30,000 worth of some very neat gifts.

Presidents are allowed to accept gifts under certain conditions. They can't be from foreign governments or foreign officials without consent of congress, but the Congressional Research Services affirm that 'the president is generally free to accept unsolicited personal gifts from the American public.'

Some things bestowed upon the former president includes a 'signed and framed photograph of President John F. Kennedy,' a baseball bat signed by Hank Aaron, a 'replica Vince Lombardi trophy,' a 'framed ballot from the election of 1864 in favor of President Abraham Lincoln', a 'Navy letterman-style jacket' and three Pueblo-style Native American pots. Collectively, these trinkets are valued around $6569.

Mr. Obama was also given a piece of art by Norman Rockwell, entitled, "The Problem We All Live With." The painting immortalizes the first African-American girl, Ruby Bridges Hall, on her way to an all-white elementary school after desegregation. Bridges was six and the time, and the piece is often considered an iconic depiction of the Civil Rights Movement. Hall even signed the image for the first black president.

The painting is worth about $825.

Comedian and co-host of 'The View' presented Mr. Obama with a framed photograph of Muhammad Ali. The gift was valued at $5250.

A large, wooden map case with vintage maps was given to Mr. Obama by National Geographic, and that was valued at $7,000.

The most expensive gift in the former POTUS's haul was also extremely personal. It was a five-volume set of his own genealogy. The gift was made for him by the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was valued at $8,300. The meaning behind them, undoubtedly, is priceless.
