NRA: Clinton Wants To Take Away Your Guns

The National Rifle Association is alleging in a television commercial that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton plans to deny Americans their constitutional right to bear arms if she wins the Nov. 8 election.

The spot, which cost the NRA $5 million, is running in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia. Politico noted that the ad does not refer to Republican candidate Donald Trump, whom the gun-rights organization has endorsed.

The ad portrays a woman alone in bed who is confronted by an intruder. As she runs for her phone, a narrator points out that police usually take about 11 minutes to respond to 911 calls. “Hillary Clinton would take away her right to self defense, and with Supreme Court justices, Hillary can,” the narrator says. “Don’t let Hillary leave you protected with nothing but a phone.”

Clinton often cites gun control as one of her top priorities. She is a strong proponent of requiring people who buy firearms online and at gun shows to pass federal background checks. However, she has not advocated repealing the Second Amendment or confiscating weapons, according to multiple sources.

Politico suggested that the commercial is designed to appeal to voters who own firearms for self-defense. Last year, pollsters with Harvard and Northeastern universities found that two-thirds of gun owners say that is the reason they are armed, The Trace reported.
