NBC Seemingly Backs Oprah In 2020 - Don Jr. Has A Response For That

Hollywood’s best and brightest were on display at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards, but the normally festive atmosphere was somewhat tempered. A large number of female attendees arrived in black gowns to draw even more attention to the various scandals that have swarmed across the entertainment industry, and the end result was a tense atmosphere in which it wasn’t clear how those in attendance should act.

Should this be the normally festive atmosphere of an awards show that’s typically chock full of glitz and glamour but short on substance? Or should this be a somber affair that helps to drive home the realities of the current climate?

Will there be enough time to throw some shade on President Donald Trump, which has become a staple of awards shows? The answer to all three of those questions would turn out to be ‘yes’ before the night was through.

As Fox News Insider shares, one of the highlights of the evening was a speech from Oprah Winfrey, which many hailed as a not so subtle sign that she’s going to have something to say about the 2020 election.

"I want all of the girls watching here now to know, that a new day is on the horizon," she said.

Seth Meyers served as master of ceremony for the affair, and he would quickly pick up on the cue.

“In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Jokes about how he was unqualified to be president,” he said.

“Some have said that night convinced him to run. So if that’s true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president!"

He joked, "You do not have what it takes!”

Not too long after, NBC would drop a tweet that included a picture of Winfrey.

“Nothing but respect for OUR future president,” the post read.

It was a rather unusual post from a network with a rather large news operation that has been called into question for its overall objectivity in covering the president. Donald Trump Jr. was among the many that were taken aback by the post, albeit not all that surprised.

“In case anyone had any doubts about where the media stands this should take care of it. The bias against @realDonaldTrump is now so obvious they have simply given up hiding it," he wrote.

"Can you trust anything they say at this point? Americans see the truth in job #s & in their wallets!” he wrote.

After receiving a substantial amount of backlash, the network would see better of things and delete the tweet. Afterwards, the network offered up a mea culpa of sorts.

“Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the broadcast. It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement," they wrote, before noting that the previous tweet was deleted.

So was this merely an attempt at humor from an outside vendor as the network suggests? It may really be as simple as that, but that still calls into attention the network’s overall judgement.

When there are questions about your network's objectivity swirling around, how can you possibly fan the flames of that even further? Perhaps the network will use this misstep as a learning experience and take a step outside of the echo chamber while bouncing ideas around in the future.
