Muslim Obama Staffer Quits, Refuses To Work For Trump - Here’s Why

Anytime a new boss takes over, there’s a chance that there will be some employee turnover. That turnover can materialize itself through both voluntary and involuntary separations, but in both cases, there’s typically some hurt feelings that go along with the decision to move on. As CBS News shares, it sounds like that’s the case for this former staffer with the National Security Council, who resigned her post just eight days into the Trump administration.

Rumana Ahmed is a Muslim-American woman that joined the NSC while President Obama was in office, but she notes that things changed when President Trump took office.

“It was a very tense and unwelcoming feeling,” she says.

It’s unclear if the tenseness was caused by the Trump administration’s proposed immigration policies, but it certainly sounds like other NSC employees were surprised that she was sticking around to begin with.

“I got both of those looks of ‘oh my God, like, are you OK, you know, is this, you know, I’m surprised you’re still here,’ but then you also had others who were just very cold and just kind of ignored the fact that I was even there,” Ahmed continues.

Ahmed also felt left out in the dark in terms of the administration’s actual policies, and it sounds like that helped nudge her out the door as well.

“You kind of actually found out about things as they came out in the news, and that wasn’t just true of some of us who stayed, but it was also true of some of the Trump staffers as well,” Ahmed said.

She does acknowledge that the administration’s hastily-enacted immigration policy that focused on immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries amounted to a last straw for her. Ahmed tendered her resignation less than two weeks after Trump took office. No word on what her future plans are, but she’s certainly not keeping a low profile in the wake of her decision to move on.
