Muslim Group Challenges Donald Trump to a Debate

A Muslim organization, upset over Donald Trump’s inflammatory remarks about Islam and its followers, has challenged the Republican presidential contender to a debate.

“Ever since you announced your run for presidency of the United States, you have scapegoated the American Muslim community and other minority groups for all your perceived ills of America,” the Muslim Public Affairs Council told Trump’s campaign. The group proposed a debate between the real-estate developer and an American Muslim “on the issues” the candidate has “raised about Islam and Muslims,” The Hill reported.

MPAC alleged that Trump and his fans are “scared of anything that is different than you.” The organization joined others in slamming the billionaire for spreading a false rumor about General John Pershing using bullets “dipped in pig’s blood” to murder Muslims in the Philippines.

“You rely on the promotion of fear and Internet lies to fuel the flames of hate and divisiveness across our country,” MPAC’s letter to Trump stated. “Well, we have news for you: We will no longer be bullied. We will no longer be your punching bag.”

Many Republicans, as well as Democrats, have accused Trump of bigotry for proposing a ban on Muslim immigration to the United States. He also wants authorities to conduct surveillance at U.S. mosques, and create a national database to monitor American Muslims.
