Most Americans Not Satisfied With Presidential Options

A newly released national poll indicates that this year’s presidential candidates have failed to inspire a majority of voters, The Associated Press reported.

Most of those who responded to the AP-GfK survey said none of the politicians reflect their views “at least somewhat well.” About half of them told pollsters they would be “disappointed” or “angry” if either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton is victorious. However, the former secretary of state and the billionaire businessman continue to lead the races for the Democratic and Republican nominations.

One in four respondents said they would be disappointed or angry if both of the front-runners are on the ballot in November. Another 25 percent predicted they would feel “neutral” or worse about a Trump-Clinton contest. Sixty-three percent vowed to reject Trump, while about 50 percent ruled out supporting Clinton. About one in five of those surveyed said they would vote for an independent or third-party candidate if Trump and Clinton represent the major parties.

Just 26 percent of Democrats expressed enthusiasm about a Clinton nomination. Twenty-seven percent said they would be “excited,” 23 percent answered “neutral,” 19 percent would be “disappointed” and 5 percent would be “angry.”

Among Republicans, only 19 percent expect to be excited about Trump. Nineteen percent said they would be “satisfied” with him as the GOP nominee, while 16 percent chose “angry” as their response to the question.
