Morning Joe Comes Out Swinging In Wake Of Trump's Controversial Tweet

The on-again, off-again war of words between President Donald Trump and MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ has ratcheted back up to a whole new level. The program has been one of the more vocal critics of POTUS since he was sworn into office - and that’s saying a lot - and each and every day features another round of Trump bashing. Once in awhile, Trump feels the need to respond. As we all know by now, when Trump hits back, he hits back quite hard.

Trump’s latest salvo came in the wake of NBC’s decision to fire Matt Lauer over sexual harassment allegations. Trump feels there’s a lot more to see at the peacock network, and he called attention to that fact on social media.

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” Trump wrote.

As The Hill shares, that prompted a passionate response from host Joe Scarborough the following day.

"You have somebody inside the White House that the New York Daily News says is mentally unfit," he said. "That people close to him say is mentally unfit, that people close to him during the campaign told me had early stages of dementia."

For context, Trump was dredging up an old rumor about the death of a staffer when Scarborough served in Congress. He was never implicated in anything to do with the death whatsoever, but it’s still been the subject of gossip mill conjecture. Exactly why Trump felt the need to bring it up is unclear, but it’s quite clear that it got quite the rise out of Scarborough.

"We heard this months ago, that we are going to have a ground war in Korea, they believe that inside the White House for a very long time," Scarborough continued. "If this is not what the 25th Amendment was drafted for."

Scarborough is referring to the constitutional amendment that provides some inroads towards removing a president that is unfit for office. It’s not the first time the use of the amendment has been suggested in regards to Trump, and it certainly won’t be the last. Is it going to happen? We’ll consider that to be on the extraordinarily unlikely side.

Either way, there’s a lot to unpack here. First and foremost, there’s zero reason for the commander-in-chief to be wasting time, mental capital, and effort on advancing a silly war of words. It’s incredibly unpresidential, and it does nothing more than add more fuel to the fire for the crowd that feels Trump has no business in the White House.

That said, the morning show program treats the President of the United States as if he’s a pinata on a daily basis. Once again, there’s zero need for that. Scarborough and the rest of the Morning Joe gang are perfectly entitled to disagree with Trump and even dislike him, but do they really need to be so hostile about it?

If you can’t make your points without getting angry, then there’s a really good chance that you haven’t thought through the points that you wish to express. Perhaps Scarborough and company can spend a little more time doing just that while avoiding the urge to stir the pot. If they do so, will that finally put this unnecessary war of words to bed once and for all? That’s unclear, but it would be wonderful to see all parties involved start to behave like big boys and girls.
