Michelle Obama Complains About Struggle, Conservative Actor Has Epic Response

Last month, former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s 30th anniversary celebration. Those in attendance loved hearing what she had to say, but her comments didn’t necessarily translate as well when disseminated by a larger audience. In short, she lamented the struggles that she faces to this very day, as well as the hard times she went through during her eight years in the White House. As Western Journalism shares, actor James Woods is among the many that have called the former FLOTUS out for her remarks.

Michelle has developed into quite a gifted speaker, and her appearance went off without a hitch. Her most noteworthy remarks came when she started discussing the struggles she faced during her time in the White House.

“The shards that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut,” she said. “Knowing that after eight years of working really hard for this country, there are still people who won’t see me for what I am because of my skin color.”

In fairness to Michelle, there were certainly plenty of hateful things said about her when she was First Lady. That being said, there are hateful things said about each and every member of the First Family, regardless of who currently occupies the White House. That doesn’t make it ok, but it, unfortunately, comes with the territory. She proceeded to hit those notes as the conversation evolved.

“Women, we endure those cuts in so many ways that we don’t even notice we’re cut,” she added. “We are living with small tiny cuts, and we are bleeding every single day. And we’re still getting up.”

Fair enough, but the struggles that she’s alluding to don’t necessarily apply in her case anymore. Exactly who is standing in the way of Michelle accomplishing anything she sets out to do? No one. Who is preventing her from living an opulent lifestyle since her time in the White House came to a close? Again, no one. While it may not have been her intention, she’s trivializing real life struggles by attempting to portray herself as some sort of victim.

Woods was among the many that were rubbed the wrong way by her remarks, and he hopped on social media to share his thoughts.

“What? One personal 747 and 32 assistants weren’t enough for her eight-year vacation on your dime?” he wrote.

Point taken. Anyone that has reached a certain level of success is no longer ‘struggling’ or being ‘oppressed.’ Do things like that still happen in our country? Sure they do, and Michelle’s time would be better served by recognizing that and helping to do something about it.

Playing the victim card doesn’t do the trick. Explaining to folks something along the lines of ‘hey, this is where I came from, and this is what I learned from those experiences’ would work wonders, as well as being honest about the fact that the struggles get easier the further you move up the food chain.
