Michael Moore Jumps On Leak Bandwagon With New Website Devoted To Taking Down Trump

If you were sitting around worried that there aren’t enough leaks coming out of the nation’s capital these days, you can rest a little bit easier. That’s because documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has started a new website that exists for the sole purpose of encouraging people to leak information. Yes, seriously. There has been an astronomical number of leaks coming out of the White House and various government agencies since President Donald Trump took office, but Moore seems to believe we need even more.

As The Hill shares, Moore’s new website is known as ‘Trumpileaks.’ The site is noted as being completely secure and designed to protect anonymity, as it uses encrypted messaging. The homepage features a letter from Moore that amounts to a call to action.

"From the time you opened this letter to the time you get to the bottom of it, there’s a decent chance that our President will have violated the constitution, obstructed justice, lied to the American people, encouraged or supported acts of violence, or committed some horrible mistake that would’ve ended any other politician's career (or sent you or I to jail),” he writes. “And just like all the times he’s done so in the past, he will get away with it."

Those are some pretty strong charges, but those that may have followed Moore’s career knows that he makes a living off of making charges and then attempting to back them up with a documentary outlining his ‘findings.’ That couldn’t possibly be his motivation for creating this website, right? You don’t suppose that Moore would take the information that others share with him and transform it into a film that he can peddle to movie industry executives?

That’s some really interesting food for thought, but Moore is painting a picture that he’s doing this because of some kind of patriotic duty. Just in case anyone didn’t get the message about his new site, Moore took the time to pen a guest piece for the Huffington Post.

“Today, I’m launching TrumpiLeaks, a site that will enable courageous whistleblowers to privately communicate with me and my team. Patriotic Americans in government, law enforcement or the private sector with knowledge of crimes, breaches of public trust and misconduct committed by Donald J. Trump and his associates are needed to blow the whistle in the name of protecting the United States of America from tyranny,” he writes.

That sounds awfully hyperbolic, but we’ll give Moore the benefit of the doubt - at least until we get a little further along in his piece.

“While no form of digital communication is 100 percent secure, the tools we’re using at TrumpiLeaks provide the most secure technology possible to protect your anonymity (and if you don’t require anonymity, you can just email me here),” he writes. “I know this is risky. I knew we may get in trouble. But too much is at stake to play it safe. And along with the Founding Fathers, I’ve got your back.”

In short, Moore is encouraging others to break the law and share things with him. If you get caught, he’ll see what he can do to help you out. Sounds like a win-win - for Moore.
