Member of House Armed Services and Intelligence Committee Says President Obama Hollowed Out the Military

Rep. Michael Turner (R-Ohio) talked about the state of the American military with radio host John Catsimatidis on AM 970 New York Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable." He said, “President Obama, with his plan of sequestration, has really hollowed out our military. We’ve seen our military readiness, the capabilities of our military, decline significantly.”

Turner also discussed the plan to build a missile-defense system on the Eastern Seaboard. He stated, “The threats are increasing if we look to both Iran and North Korea, not just in their pursuit of nuclear weapons, but also their missile technology, where they are looking to be able to reach the United States. We do have a missile-defense field that is in Alaska. If we coupled [it] with that one in the East Coast, we’d have the ability to protect the continental United States, so that if we are challenged by North Korea or Iran, we will have a defensive system in addition to just our offensive capabilities to try to address it.”

Turner, who sits on the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, said he is backing Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) for president. He shared why by stating, “The top issues obviously are the economy, national debt, spending on the federal level, and of course John has experience creating jobs in Ohio – you’ve seen the turnaround there. And the issues of balancing the federal budget, he chaired the Budget Committee and delivered a balanced budget for our nation. And then on the issue of national security, he served on the Armed Services Committee, he knows the needs of our military, and he certainly knows how to satisfy them."
