Melania Trump Is Moving To The White House - Here's How That Will Change Things

Much fuss has been made about First Lady Melania Trump’s decision to stay behind in New York City so that her son Barron can finish out the school year, but it’s soon to be a moot point. The school year is just about over, and Melania and Barron will be heading the nation’s capital before we know it. As AOL shares, anticipation is high for her pending move to the White House, and the speculation is ramping up about what kind of changes may be in the works once FLOTUS comes to town on a permanent basis.

Currently, Melania’s staff numbers 10, but there’s some thought that that number could grow once she heads to DC. Theoretically, the First Lady will be taking on more of an active role, and that will lead to some additional responsibilities to be tended to. However, there are also thoughts that she’ll keep a much smaller staff than those of her predecessors. Michelle Obama employed 24 people in her staff, while Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton both clocked in with 19 staff members.

President Donald Trump has long preached the importance of doing more with less, and the First Lady’s office could be one area of focus that he looks at to save some taxpayer dollars. White House press secretary Sean Spicer noted the president’s demands for fiscal responsibility in a February press briefing.

"There's going to be a respect for taxpayers in this administration, so that whether it's salaries or actual positions or programs, he's going to have a very, very tough look at how we're operating government, how many positions they're in, what people are getting paid," he said.

As for what types of issues the First Lady wishes to tackle, that remains unclear. She has previously noted that the area of cyberbullying will be a focus of hers, but it’s unclear exactly how much time she’ll dedicate to that issue.

"It is never okay when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied, or attacked. It is terrible when that happens on the playground," she has previously said. "And it is absolutely unacceptable when it is done by someone with no name hiding on the internet."

Whatever her area of focus turns out to be, we can expect Melania’s schedule to be jam-packed moving forward. There will be all sorts of events, luncheons and dinners for her to attend, and her profile will only grow as a result. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to that, as she seems to shy away from the spotlight as a general rule.

Additionally, the president has grown accustomed to working long hours in his family’s absence, but that sounds like par for the course for him. That shouldn’t change too much with Melania in town more frequently, but perhaps she can do her part to keep him off of social media after hours. While the White House press corps probably won’t appreciate that too much, Trump administration staff will be forever grateful.
