Megyn Kelly Asks Putin About Election Hacking - He Has Harsh Words In Response

Vladimir Putin, who is not accustomed to tough questions from reporters, was clearly annoyed when Megyn Kelly challenged him in an interview that aired Sunday night.

The NBC host, who previously worked for Fox News, pressed Putin to admit that his government tried to help Donald Trump win last year’s election by hacking Democratic Party officials’ computers. The Russian leader responded by claiming that hackers in other countries “very skillfully and professionally shifted the blame onto Russia.” He declared: “A child can do that! Your underage daughter could do that.”

According to People, Putin also argued that U.S. intelligence operatives may have been involved in the cyber attacks. “Can you imagine something like that?” he asked. “In the midst of a political battle, by some calculations it was convenient for them to release this information so they released it, citing Russia. Can you imagine something like that? I can.”

Putin slammed Kelly and others in the U.S. news media for their coverage of the Trump-Russia scandal. “You have created a sensation out of nothing, and out of this sensation you created a weapon of war against the president,” he said. “You people over there … good job. Your lives must be boring. … It reminds me of anti-Semitism. A dumb man who can’t do anything would blame the Jews for everything.”

When asked whether he had embarrassing information about Trump that he could use to blackmail the president, Putin dismissed the question as “just another load of nonsense.” He asked: “Where would we get this information from? There was a time when he used to come to Moscow but, you know, I never met him. Do you think we’re gathering information on all of the (U.S. business executives who visit Russia)? Have you all lost your sense over there?”

Kelly pointed out that at a December 2015 dinner in Moscow, Putin was seated beside former national security director Michael Flynn, who lost his job in February following revelations about his Russian connections. Putin recalled: “When I came to the (dinner) for our company, Russia Today, and sat down at the table, next to me there was a gentleman sitting on one side. I made my speech. Then we talked about some other stuff. And I got up and left. And then afterwards I was told, ‘You know there was an American gentleman. He was involved in some things. He used to be in the security services.’ … That’s it. I didn’t even really talk to him. … That’s the extent of my acquaintance with Mr. Flynn.”

Putin was “was like two different men” before and during the interview, Kelly later told “Sunday Today” host Willie Geist. “Off-camera and privately towards me, he was warm, extremely polite … was very personable one-on-one,” she said. “Then, on-camera, he was the Russian president that we’ve all come to know: He was combative, he was defiant, he was feisty, he was fiery, he was on offense on all of the issues. He was the Vladimir Putin Russians love to see.”
