McCain Slams Obama’s Strategy to Fight Terrorists

The Obama administration should step up its efforts to defeat ISIS, in light of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., according to Sen. John McCain.

Newsmax reported that the Arizona Republican was asked Tuesday on Fox News whether Obama is likely to alter his methods of dealing with terrorism. McCain responded: “I’m always hopeful. Frankly, I don’t know what’s going to change this president. Meanwhile, as Lindsey Graham and I pointed out, ISIS is metastasizing. They are in Libya and seven other countries in the region, and there is no strategy to defeat them.”

The senator alleged that while the administration has “trumpeted” U.S. airstrikes on ISIS oil-transport vehicles, “it took them a year” to carry out the operation. “One of the reasons why is (the military) could never get permission from the White House to attack those fuel trucks,” he said. “I’m not making that up.”

McCain, one of the leading war hawks in Congress, repeated his call for establishing a no-fly zone in Syria. “You can stop the barrel bombing of Bashar al-Assad, and don and train freedom fighters there,” he said.

The 2008 Republican presidential nominee also favors the deployment of thousands of U.S. ground troops to the Middle East. “For four years, Lindsey Graham and I have been saying that,” he told Fox News. “There is going to be another attack unless we stop them, and that is just inevitable.”
