Louisiana Star Governor Bobby Jindal Announces Presidential Bid

On Wednesday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal became the 13th presidential hopeful on the GOP side--he announced his intention to run via a Facebook video. Although he was expected to launch his campaign at an event later on Wednesday afternoon, he pre-empted it with a video showing him telling his children that he's running. In the video, he says, “Mommy and Daddy have been thinking and talking a lot about this. We have decided that we are going to be running for president." His oldest son Shaan's first reaction was to give his father a thumbs up. The video is taken from an angle where the camera seems to be perched on a tree, blocking almost all of Jindal's face. Although popular in Louisiana, Jindal is currently polling at 1 percent nationally and in the first two nominating states, Iowa and New Hampshire. In the video, Jindal’s wife, Supriya, asked her children what they liked best about Iowa.

“Popcorn,” Slade said. Jindal has been Louisiana's governor since 2008 and served a two-term stint in the House. He was already seen as a strong minority voice in the party and possible presidential candidate immediately after President Obama's first election. On Wednesday morning's Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom," Jindal said “We’ve got a lot of talkers in this race, we need a doer. I’ve not just talked about how to replace ObamaCare, I’ve got a plan. I’ve actually reduced the size of government at home, we’ve cut our budget here 26 percent over 30,000 fewer government bureaucrats.” He added “We need that kind of radical action in D.C., we need that kind of dramatic change in direction, not incremental change.” In addition, he argued that President Obama and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton advocate policies that move “towards socialism.”
