Leading House Republican Points To Potential Bombshell In Secret FISA Memo

Ever since the calendar turned to 2018, there have been rumblings about a so-called secret ‘FISA memo’ that’s chock full of explosive allegations about government surveillance abuses. In a nutshell, the memo is said to offer crystal clear evidence that former President Barack Obama’s administration spied on the campaign and transition team of President Donald Trump with the assistance of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

Trump and members of the GOP have been calling for the memo to be released for public consumption, as they feel that the American people have a right to understand the ramifications of these allegations.

However, Democrats are insisting that the memo is much ado about nothing. As they see it, the memo is just a bunch of Republican talking points aimed at undermining the credibility of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Justice.

Needless to say, the mere topic of the memo itself has led to even more tension on Capitol Hill.

As the Blaze shares, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) took the time to state his case on why the memo needs to be released during a chat with Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.

“If you think your viewers want to know whether or not the dossier was used in court proceedings, whether or not it was vetted before it was used, whether or not it’s ever been vetted. If you are interested in who paid for the dossier,” Gowdy explained.

“If you’re interested in Christopher Steele’s relationship with Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, then, yes, you’ll want the memo to come out.”

From the perspective of the Democrats, the release of the memo will lead to even more unnecessary problems. At a minimum, the memo provides some additional insight into just how broken things may be in the nation’s capital.

“I will just ask you again, are you interested in whether or not the world’s premier law enforcement agency relied on a work product produced, paid for by the Democratic National Committee?” Gowdy continued.

“Do you want to know whether or not the primary source in these court proceedings had a bias against one candidate? Do you want to know whether or not he said he’d do anything to keep that candidate from becoming elected president?”

While nearly all politicians are prone to bouts of hyperbole while reciting talking points, Gowdy is one of the rare breed that’s consistently a straight shooter. If he hints that there’s something to see here, then there’s a really good chance that he’s on the money.

“I want the bureau to know everything that’s in the memo. I think you’ll be surprised," he said.

"It is not a hit piece on the department and the FBI,” he added. “I would not have participated in it if that’s what it was.”

Whether or not the memo will ultimately be released is unclear, but signs point to the House Oversight Committee having little choice but to do so at this point. After all, there’s nary a thought given to the leaking of all kinds of unverified claims in regards to the Mueller investigation.

That being the case, why would a lid need to be kept on a memo that appears to have been thoroughly vetted for accuracy?
