Lawmaker: Refugee Crisis Threatens Civilization

Refugees fleeing war-ravaged Syria are threatening to destroy Western civilization, according to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

Opposing Views reported that the congressman, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats, issued the warning during a Nov. 4 hearing. He cited the hundreds of thousands of people who are being forced to leave Syria and other Middle Eastern countries in search of new homes in Europe and elsewhere.

“What we have seen over the past few months is unsustainable, and if not checked will change the fundamental nature of European countries which are now being inundated,” Rohrabacher said, according to CSN News. “It is expected that around a million asylum seekers of all origins will reach Germany in this year alone. Even the most optimistic scenarios say that Europe will have to re-direct billions and billions of dollars from supporting their own citizens to accommodating the needs of these refugees.”

He called the crisis “the destruction of Western civilization, not by an armed invasion, but by envelopment.” He criticized German officials for allowing many of the refugees to enter their country and challenged the Obama administration’s policy of providing sanctuary in the United States.

RT, Russia’s state-controlled television network, reported that Rohrabacher commented: “Had we been working with the Russians all along in good faith, I believe the situation in the Middle East would have been totally different and better; more stable.”
