Lawmaker Links California Drought To Abortion

The record-setting drought in California could be God’s punishment for the state allowing abortion, according to one lawmaker.

“Texas was in a long period of drought until Governor (Rick) Perry signed the fetal pain bill. It rained that night. Now, God has his hold on California,”

California Assemblywoman Shannon Grove said last week at the Pro-Life Legislative Banquet.

The Texas law banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, four weeks earlier than the limit established in the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, RH Reality Check noted.

After receiving criticism for her remarks, Grove wrote in a Facebook posting: "I believe, and most Americans believe, that God’s hand is in the affairs of man, and certainly was in the formation of this country. Is this drought caused by God? Nobody knows. But biblical history shows a consequence to man’s actions."

The Huffington Post reported that not all pro-lifers agree with the legislator. “We are huge fans of Shannon Grove and all her efforts in Sacramento on behalf of life, (but) we have not made a connection between the drought and abortion here in California,” Marylee Shrider, executive director of Right to Life of Kern County, told The Bakersfield Californian.

California reportedly is suffering from its worst drought in 1,200 years.. Many scientists believe climate change is responsible.
