The Kushner-Trump Family Gets Slapped With Lawsuit For Omitting Information On Financial Disclosure Forms

Ever since President Donald Trump became a serious contender in the 2016 election, critics have gone after not just the former real estate mogul and reality star, but his entire family. Daughter Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, have most often come under fire due to their involvement in President Trump's administration. The couple are now being slapped with a lawsuit that claims they neglected to include at least 30 assets in their financial disclosure papers.

Attorney Jeffrey Lovitky has filed the suit, claiming that both Kushner and Ivanka neglected to add more than two dozen investment funds on their public financial disclosure forms.

The complaint reads, "The failure of Defendants to provide the information as herein described deprived Plaintiff of (a) an opportunity to make an independent judgment as to whether Defendants are or reasonably could be influenced by conflicts of interests, (b) information required to evaluate and judge the performance of Defendants in their official duties, (c) information required to determine whether trust in the integrity of Defendants is warranted, and (d) information required to participate in the political process in an informed manner."

Kushner, Lovitky alleges, left several key investment funds out of the documents due to signing a 'preexisting confidentiality agreement'.

"The EIGA does not allow a reporting individual to refuse to disclose the underlying assets of an investment vehicle, on the basis that such disclosure would violate a pre-existing confidentiality agreement. Nor does the EIGA allow a reporting individual to refuse to disclose the amount of income derived from any underlying asset of an investment vehicle, on the basis that such disclosure would violate a pre-existing confidentiality agreement," Lovitky says in his complaint.

The White House has dismissed the lawsuit as 'frivolous' and say that Kushner and Ivanka have been in compliance with the laws.

“Mr. Kushner’s 278e was closely reviewed by the nonpartisan Office of Government Ethics, which certified his compliance with federal law. Mr. Kushner and his representatives also maintain ongoing communications with the Office of Government Ethics to ensure his disclosures remain in compliance,” said a White House spokesperson. “Ms. Trump’s 278e parallels Mr. Kushner’s in all relevant respects.”

Since Kushner began working in the Trump White House, he has amended his financial documents several times. Many assets that were initially left off the form have since been included, though Kushner insists they were 'inadvertently omitted'.

Ivanka and Kushner have previously been fined for submitting their financial disclosure forms late. Lovitky insists on the couple revealing the 'underlying holdings'.

According to the Ethics in Government Act, government officials have to make a 'full and complete statement' of their assets.

Lovitky isn't just going after Ivanka Trump and her husband. He's also filed a civil lawsuit against President Donald Trump under the Ethics in Government Act. He claims the president mixed his personal liabilities with his company, making it impossible to determine what were Trump's debts and what were the company's debts. The form was filed during the 2016 campaign.

Mr. Trump has been under fire since taking office for possibly violating the Emoluments clause of the Constitution, a clause meant to keep public elected officials from profiting off their position.
