Kid Rock Hints At Potential Run For Senate Seat In Series Of Social Media Posts

Robert James Ritchie, better known as ‘Kid Rock’, has hinted that he will be running for office in the 2018 U.S. Senate elections. Kid Rock, a 46-year-old singer, songwriter and record producer, set social media aflame when he tweeted: "I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real... http://kidrockforsenate.com The answer is an absolute YES…I will have a major announcement in the near future." The same message was also repeated on Kid Rock’s verified Facebook account.

The website in question, www.kidrockforsenate.com, features an enormous banner photo of Kid Rock, dressed in a brown leather jacket, blue jeans and a white fedora, and a stuffed deer in the background. Underneath the striking image is a campaign tagline: ‘Are you scared?’

The website also shows photos of campaign gear, showing stickers, T-shirts and baseball caps, all emblazoned with the ‘campaign’ slogan: “Kid Rock for US Senate.” The website landing page also features a slideshow of other taglines, including: "Party to the People," "In Rock We Trust," and "You Never Met a Politician Quite Like Me." The website also includes an option to join an email list and sign up for more information.

Warner Bros Records, Kid Rock’s well-known music label, also added a new component to their online shop, a category called ‘Senate,’ featuring four Kid Rock-themed campaign items: baseball hats, yard signs, stickers and T-Shirts.

A Michigan native and high-profile supporter of President Trump, online commenters are already predicting that, if Kid Rock is going to run for office, he will be running against Michigan’s incumbent Senator, Debbie Stabenow (Democrat). At this stage, Ms. Stabenow is indifferent to Kid Rock’s potential challenge, tweeting: “I know we both share a love of music. I concede he's better at playing guitar and I'll keep doing what I do best: fighting for Michigan.”

After publicly backing Mitt Romney and Ben Carson, Kid Rock threw his support behind Donald Trump when he was announced as the 2016 Republican presidential candidate. During the campaign, Kid Rock made headlines when he announced a new pro-Trump range, featuring a T-shirt with the slogan: “Gods Guns & Trump.” After President Trump’s inauguration, Kid Rock accompanied Ted Nugent and Sarah Palin to the White House, where the trio met and dined with the president.

Despite Kid Rock’s apparent confirmation, a spokesperson for the Federal Election Committee, Judith Ingram, has reported that, at this point in time, there are no records of Kid Rock filing to run for the 2018 Senate elections. However, Ms. Ingram did emphasize that these circumstances might change, telling CNN that the decision "would first go to the Secretary of the Senate, which is the entry point for Senate filings." The Michigan Republican Party has also been caught off guard by Kid Rock’s declaration, with deputy chief of staff, Sarah Anderson, telling CNN: "We have not had any conversations with Kid Rock so I cannot speak to the validity of this."
