Karl Rove Denies Charges in Ted Cruz’s New Book

Two prominent Republicans, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and presidential adviser Karl Rove, are engaged in a “feud” over charges the senator made in his recently published book, according to The Hill.

Rove, a political operative who assisted both President Bushes during their campaigns and in the White House, reportedly is mad at Cruz for alleging that Rove “suggested the elder Bush was too old to have good judgment anymore.” Cruz wrote that he was “offended” by the remark, Breitbart News reported.

The book suggests that the feud began in 2009, when the future senator was running for state attorney general in Texas. According to Cruz, Rove threatened to advise President George W. Bush to support the other candidate if Cruz disclosed a donation he received from former President George H.W. Bush.

Rove, in a post on Medium, responded: “Former President Bush 43 (was not) going to endorse some unnamed Dallas state representative for state attorney general.” He added: “I am accustomed to being criticized for others’ political benefit, but am disappointed in how Senator Cruz decided to raise the name of one of the finest presidents our country has ever known, President George H.W. Bush.”

Cruz lags behind several other candidates in polls of likely GOP primary voters.
