Judge Jeanine: It's Time To Go After Comey

The federal government should launch an investigation of fired FBI Director James Comey, according to former Judge Jeanine Pirro.

The Fox News Channel host said Saturday on her show that Comey may have committed “obstruction of justice, conspiracy and perjury.” She declared: “No more cover-ups. No more rigged investigations. No more cutting organized criminal enterprises like the Clinton Foundation any slack. Mr. Holier-Than-Thou Comey is the essence of the swamp that Americans so want to clean up. It is time to go after Jim Comey.”

The former bureau chief oversaw the FBI inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Comey announced in July 2016 that he would not recommend criminal charges against Clinton, though he accused her of having been “extremely careless” in handling classified government information.

According to Fox News, Republican Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina claimed last week that Comey started writing his announcement exonerating Clinton before the FBI had finished its probe. The lawmakers alleged that the director did not interview Clinton campaign officials who had been granted immunity from prosecution in return for cooperating with investigators.

“Conclusion first, fact-gathering second; that’s no way to run an investigation,” Grassley and Graham wrote. “The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy.” The senators asked the current FBI director, Christopher Wray, to turn over copies of the statement Comey issued Sept. 13 concerning the email investigation.

President Trump suggested that he supports the senators’ request. He tweeted: “Wow, looks like James Comey exonerated Hillary Clinton long before the investigation was over … and so much more. A rigged system!”

Comey, in his congressional testimony earlier this year, claimed that he publicly cleared Clinton because the Obama administration’s attorney general, Loretta Lynch, had pressed him to do so. Many Republicans have accused Comey of letting the former secretary of state off the hook. The ex-director also has few friends among Democrats who believe the FBI probe helped dash Clinton’s presidential ambitions.

Just 11 days before the election, Comey announced that the FBI was re-opening the email probe. Though he later conceded there was no incriminating information, Democrats complained that the damage had already been done. “I was just dumbfounded,” Clinton said Wednesday on NBC’s “Today” show. “I thought, ‘What is he doing?’ The investigation was closed — I know there’s no new information. … I feel very strongly that he went way beyond his role in doing what he did.”

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee argued that she “would’ve won” the race if Comey had not revived the investigation, which she called the “determining factor” in her loss. “It stopped my momentum,” she said. “It drove voters from me. And so that, in terms of my personal defeat, was the most important factor.” Referring to the FBI probe of the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia, Clinton maintained that Comey “was fired for the wrong reason” in early May. “He should’ve been disciplined for the way that he behaved on the email investigation,” she said.
