Ivanka And Jared In Trouble After Trump Discovers What They've Been Doing

Those that disregard the many lessons afforded by history are doomed to repeat some unfortunate mistakes that are completely avoidable. We can apply that sentiment to all kinds of situations, but it’s particularly well-suited for the world of politics. There’s a veritable plethora of political scandals out there that serve as a clear reminder of the things that you shouldn’t be doing. While the vast majority of them revolve around matters of common sense, they’re still there for reference for anyone that may be sketchy on things.

As Politico shares, there’s a new piece of news floating around that’s not quite at the level of a scandal, but you would certainly expect the parties involved to know better. Reports indicate that DC power couple Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have occasionally used personal email addresses while conducting White House or government business. As we all know from the scandal that still taints the legacy of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, that’s a gigantic no-no. It’s pretty head-scratching to imagine that something along these lines would even pop up while that stench is still quite pungent.

To Kushner’s credit, he’s gotten ahead of things and released a statement via his attorney, Abbe Lowell.

“Mr. Kushner uses his White House email address to conduct White House business. Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account,” the statement said. “These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address.”

The explanation makes sense, and you can certainly see how that could happen. That’s especially true for those that communicate via email on mobile devices. If you have multiple email accounts, it’s always wise to double check that you’re sending communications from the correct one for the intended target. That being said, this is a gigantic oversight on the part of Kushner. As for Ivanka, she may have a bit more of an excuse.

“A White House spokesperson told Newsweek that Ivanka Trump was not a federal employee at the time she used the private account,” the New York Post reports. “But when she became a federal employee, Ivanka Trump 'made clear that one of her reasons for doing so was to ensure that she would have access to government-issued communications devices and receive an official email account to protect government records,' the spokesperson said in a statement.”

In the grand scheme of things, this will probably not amount to a big deal for Jared and Ivanka - BUT it very well could have. That should be enough to scare the daylights out of both of them, as scandals have erupted out of far less in the blink of an eye. Based on all of the attention that has been given to Clinton’s carelessness with emails, you would think that point would have been driven home already with anyone associated with the Trump administration.
