Ivana Trump Made Kids Fly Coach While She Sat in First Class

Ivana Trump, the mother of the president’s three eldest children, used to ride in a first-class airplane seat and put the kids in the coach section.

According to Bravo TV, Ivana was trying to teach Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric a lesson. The website suggested that she wanted to instill values. “I would take the kids to Europe for two months — June and July,” Ivana told CBS News last week. “And they would fly economy, and I would fly first class, you know?” Recalling that Ivanka was not always happy with the arrangement, she said the future “first daughter” once asked: “Can I be upgraded?” The mother said she responded: “When you can afford it, you get upgraded.”

Last month, Bravo reported that Ivanka was spotted taking a commercial flight rather than a government plane or one of her family’s aircraft. She traveled from Detroit to Washington, D.C., following appearances where she encouraged girls to consider careers in coding. Ivanka’s flight experience was a bit different than that of the other passengers. She got to skip the security line and boarding procedure, instead walking with Secret Service agents directly onto the plane.

According to the Daily Mail, the flight marked the first time that Ivanka had not used Air Force One or a chartered private aircraft for a government-related trip since her father became president. She may have been making a statement in the wake of the controversy concerning Tom Price, the secretary of the Health and Human Services Department who was forced to resign because he took private flights at the taxpayers’ expense. One of his trips, which was just 137 miles, racked up expenses totalling $25,000. Other cabinet members, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, allegedly have done the same thing.

Bravo noted that in December 2016, about a month after Donald Trump won the election, Ivanka made news by choosing a commercial flight. TMZ reported that she travelled with her three children and some cousins in a JetBlue coach cabin. Another passenger allegedly taunted her at Kennedy Airport in New York City by yelling: “Your father is ruining the country!” The man then reportedly asked: “Why is she on our flight? She should be flying private.”

Airline authorities confronted the heckler, who was holding his young child, and kicked him off the flight. He reportedly asked the officers: “You’re kicking me off for expressing my opinion?” Another passenger said she tried to distract Ivanka’s kids with crayons during the incident. JetBlue later explained in a written statement: “The decision to remove a customer from a flight is not taken lightly. If the crew determines that a customer is causing conflict on the aircraft, the customer will be asked to deplane, especially if the crew feels the situation runs the risk of escalation during flight. Our team worked to re-accommodate the party on the next available flight.”

Bravo pointed out Donald Trump flew in his own lavish 757 jet before he started traveling in Air Force One following his inauguration in January.
