Iran To U.S.: Don’t Threaten Something You Can’t Follow Through On

The war of words between the Trump administration and Iranian officials has escalated in recent days, with warnings and threats flying in both directions.

Breitbart News reported that the latest rant against the United States came Saturday. According to the Fars news service, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Pakpour dismissed U.S. “threats” to take action against the Middle Eastern nation. “The U.S. statesmen should be very wise and avoid threatening Iran, because the entire world has admitted this fact that the Americans cannot do such a thing,” he said. “Hence, they are unlikely to do such a move because it is unwise.” The general, who commands his nation’s ground troops, charged the United States with “military aggression.”

The previous day, deputy commander for political affairs Rasul Sanayee Rad bragged about Iran’s recent missile tests, which drew sanctions from the Trump administration. Rad claimed the military exercises proved Iran has the capability of striking Tel Aviv, Israel. “Today, we are enjoying deterrence, meaning that we have dissuaded the enemy from attack,” he said.

The United States accused Iran of violating a United Nations resolution, as well as the controversial nuclear-weapons deal, by launching the ballistic missiles. Former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn proclaimed that America was “putting Iran on notice.” Trump said “nothing is off the table” if Iran continues to develop weapons. Apparently, that is just what Iran intends to do. Pakpour said additional missile launches are planned Monday as part of an operation dubbed “Grand Prophet 11.” The maneuvers “will start Monday and last three days,” the general told reporters at a press conference.

On Saturday, Vice President Mike Pence referred to Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism,” adding: “Thanks to the end of nuclear-related sanctions under the (weapons agreement), Iran now has additional resources to devote to these efforts. Let me be clear again. Under President Trump, the United States will remain fully committed to ensuring that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon capable of threatening our countries, our allies in the region, especially Israel.”
