Investigation Into Clinton's Emails Already Underway

Perhaps the Hillary Clinton email controversy is not just a hiccup after all. This week, House speaker John Boehner is expected to reveal plans around a new investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of private email while she was secretary of state. Top Republicans shared this news with ABC's "This Week," but have not divulged any details yet. Although Clinton is expected to launch her 2016 Democratic presidential campaign soon, she cannot seem to end the criticism surrounding her use of a personal email address and personal server while she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013. At a news conference last Tuesday, she said the use of her private email address was a "convenience" so that she would not have to carry two mobile devices. During that time, Clinton sent and received 62,320 emails while at the State Department. After a review process, 30,490 were handed to the department at its request. The 31,830 left were deemed private and personal records. Clinton's use of a personal email address came to light as several congressional panels investigated the 2012 attack on a US diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya. Republican Representative Trey Gowdy, head of a special House committee examining Benghazi, said he would like for Clinton to testify about her email practices before Congress by April. Gowdy told Fox News Sunday, “But who gets to decide what’s personal and what’s public? And if it’s a mixed-use email and lots of emails we get in life are both personal and some work, I just can’t trust her lawyers to make the determination that the public is getting everything they're entitled to."
