If Trump Is Impeached, This Republican Politician May Have Found A Plan

As President Donald Trump and his administration continue to be accused of constitutional violations, potential ties with Russia, and even obstruction of justice, news networks are becoming increasingly fixated on the idea that President Trump might be impeached. The appointment of a special counsel to oversee the Russian investigation and President Trump’s own admission that he is “being investigated for firing the FBI Director” have sent politicians and journalists into a frenzy of speculation.

As President Trump’s approval ratings slump, more and more Democrats are calling for President Trump to be removed from office. However, the majority of Republicans are refusing to be swayed by the negative publicity surrounding the Trump Administration and are presenting a unified front, led by the ever-loyal Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller. The Texan politician was a key supporter of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election and he recently made headlines after posting a controversial meme to his Facebook page.

The meme outlines Miller’s tongue-in-cheek perspective on President Trump’s possible impeachment. The outspoken politician noted that, if President Trump were removed by the House and Senate, the presidency would fall to Vice President, Mike Pence, a man who would have the power to pardon Mr. Trump’s wrongdoings. Miller’s meme began as a background picture of Donald Trump, emblazoned with the message: “If Trump is impeached Pence becomes President, Pence pardons Trump and appoints him Vice President. Pence resigns. Trump becomes President, and appoints Pence as his Vice President. Liberal heads explode.”

Miller also captioned his post with a defiant and humorous message, writing: “I sincerely pray that the witch hunt will end before any of this becomes necessary, but would it be fun to watch the liberal heads exploding all around us.” Miller’s meme implies that, were President Trump impeached, a simple office-flipping scheme could reinstate Donald Trump as President.

It’s unlikely that Miller intended his meme to be taken as a serious political strategy in the event of President Trump being impeached. Nevertheless, many of President Trump’s supporters continue to believe that this is a viable plan. However, the biggest issue with Miller’s proposal is that the appointment of the Vice President is not an executive decision, the standing president’s candidate must achieve majority support from both chambers.

To remove President Trump from office, impeachment must pass by a majority vote in the House and two thirds of the Senate. Therefore, for Donald Trump to become Vice President after impeachment, he would need to regain a majority vote from the House and the Senate.

Consequently, after Facebook users figured out the big flaw in Miller’s plan, the meme began to backfire, with Democrats posting memes of their own, mocking Miller’s logic and reasoning.

Miller is no stranger to controversy, drawing the ire of Democrats and Republicans alike after he suggested that the U.S. should use nuclear weapons in the Middle East and referred to Hillary Clinton as a c**t. Miller was recently fined $2,500 by the Texas Ethics Commission for dishonest accounting after he improperly reported his 2014-2016 political contributions and expenditures.
